A Quarter of a Million Trees Planted
The 2022 year’s spring tree planting project was an overwhelming success this year! Covid19 had put a halt to the two previous year’s tree planting projects due to the inability of hiring and bringing in professional tree planting crews. This year, the restrictions were lifted and several tree species were ordered from the state nursery for this spring’s planting project that covered three years’ worth of planting sites. White pine, red pine, jack pine, white spruce and red oak were among the trees ordered.
Tree planting contracts went out and the professional tree planting crew Northwoods was awarded the contract. They set to work right away, preparing the bare-root stock trees, hauling them to the sites and planting within the project areas planned that included 9 new planting sites and 11 inter-planting sites. Overall, a total of 272 acres were involved, and a grand total 243,011 trees were planted among the 20 planting sites.
A special thanks to the MTE Forest Development forestry technicians and the MTE’s timber marking crew members that assisted with the project!
